The idea

The oldest mirror shape, kept honest.

Maria Velichkova draws the Oval as a true ellipse and then narrows it by hand until it stands rather than sits: the finished glass is a little taller and a little tighter at the waist than geometry would give it. The halo runs the full perimeter, so at night the ellipse is drawn on the wall in light.

Frameless glass on an upright ellipse carries no mass, and the halo is the only line it draws on the wall.

W 70 × H 120 × D 3.5 cm
Materials
4 mm clear mirror glass, integrated 3000K LED halo, rear mounting batten

Installation

Needs a wall of at least 95 by 145 cm.

Fix the rear batten into solid blocking with the centre at standing eye line, and have a qualified electrician connect the driver to a switched supply. Leave 20 cm clear between the lower curve and a dresser top.

Care

Dust with a soft dry cloth and clean the glass as any mirror glass. Keep moisture away from the rear edge, where the LED halo and its driver sit.

Where the wall carries a window rather than facing one, the brass edge of Aster gathers that light instead.
